I am also not so besotted by the cult of personality that I can't see past Dawkins contributions & still think he's a dick.

Personally I never found myself besotted with it, in fact I rather dislike it and suggest ada instead.

To tell you the truth, had I been "talking straight" in the Cartesian manner you imply, I would have had to face much stronger opposition than these other besotted remarks.

It appears to be much easier to convince 100,000 people to risk $10 than it is to convince 1 person to risk $1M. This fact has been exploited by "religious figures" for centuries, I fear for a world besotted with tech "gurus" who get rich off selling people a technological dream future that somehow never quite comes to pass.

Everyone in Crypto Currencies are besotted by the "we are in at ground level of a tech revolution" idea... namely they think they saw the kids of the 80s/90s get easy low qualification required tech jobs and one man shops making 100s/millions/dollars.

Indeed, it is a precondition for their existence: just as you would not be surprised to find that most of the creatures sitting on top of a high crag have wings and can fly, you should not be surprised that most professors, and especially most tenured professors, are completely besotted with their lifestyle and can barely conceive of anything else.
