Roti canai (pronounced roti chanai) was one good item (among many - mentioning it because it is a breakfast item, the topic of this thread).

For instance you almost never find Sarson da Saag or Makki di roti in any restaurant, so cannot really call it Punjabi food.

Good to know about the other variations of roti canai.

In the places where I ate it, they served it with an egg spread and cooked into the top surface of the roti.

I actually got hungry for roti writing this piece.

The only thing I've ever seen butter used for here is to fry fresh roti (which are then served with condensed milk and banana or chocolate or sugar or whatever you want)..

Food: (rice/wheat bread(roti) + vegetables/dal) - this is considerably 'good' food, 1 person would need ~6 kilo of rice + 2-3 kilo of dal + misc items, cheaper options: $6-7 + cooking gas etc $2 Urban setting would mean travel and other expenses of $10-$15.

It includes Aloo da paratha with Butter or Cream Parantha with Hot cup of milk SOmetimes Daliya or vermicelli Many a times I used to get cooked spicy vegetables with baked bread (roti) My breakfast was never boring.

One of their featured perks is: "Access to $0.80 roti prata and $2.50 nasi lemak" There is nothing African about this company.

I was also not paid enough in cash to eat anything but shitty "goat roti" or other stuff like that, and I didn't really drink (I was 18) which was the main recreational activity on the island.

This is settled enough science that when you go to the doctor as an overweight Indian person, the doctor says "Eat less roti and rice or you are going to get diabetes." Admittedly nutrition science doesn't have a great track record of accuracy, but when something is well enough established that it's the standard preventative treatment, I don't think it requires a citation.

About Palak di subzi, yes, its a favourite dish in Punjab, but not as much as the now iconic, Chole Bhature & local favourite, Sarso da Saag(Spinach Dish)+Makke di Roti(Bread).
