South Slavs have multiple historical examples of Krajina(s) and they all represented bordering area, edge, (military) frontier.

I would encourage you to review exactly what Clinton did in the ethnic cleansing of Krajina.

But, Croats and Croatia are not blamed for ethnic cleansing in Srpska Krajina, they got what they wanted (mono-ethnic Croatia) and had no consequences by being friends with EU.
