The terms optimistic and delusional describe the two states of hypomania.

People who experience hypomania without depression often don't complain about it / see it as a problem.

So another challenge is to figure out whether my suddenly improved impression of my job was distorted by hypomania.

However, the danger arises when hypomania becomes mania and the person becomes delusional and actions start to not make sense anymore.

To me, that seems to be the hallmark difference between hypomania and "real" mania, and what makes the latter more dangerous and scary-- the loss of insight into the condition, or that there even is anything amiss.

This may be why people with mood disorders (at least, the milder kind that won't interfere with ethical behavior; a truly "manic" person, noting that mania-- not the milder hypomania-- is very rare even in people with bipolar, does not know who he is) tend to evolve into moralistic, hyper-ethical anti-psychopaths.

Hypomania has produced some of the greatest creative works in human history so this is not necessarily a bad thing.

Hypomania is more like having your throttle stuck on wide open and nothing you can do will make it stop.

Hypomania is pretty much a temporary phase in bipolar/schizoaffective disorders.
