doctorate

The doctorate just means that I spent years at a university in the past, not that I'm still at a university.

My problem was that everyone who applied had a Masters or Doctorate degree and was applying for mid level/entry position.

Wolfram's doctorate was in high energy physics, so they were probably things in those areas.

Outside of post-doctorate positions, there's neither funding nor desire for the kind of research that you need to further an academic career.
