People liking cabernet sauvignon does not imply that they cannot like a merlot in a cabernet sauvignon bottle.

If you really like steak, you're probably better off with a cabernet sauvignon than a riesling, rating nonwithstanding.

There are only number of wine grapes (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz etc) but every wine is different.

Cabernet / chardonnay are boring choices for boring people; there are so many other choices available.

I think my wine drinking progression went something like Red Blush ($3bottle, or box wine)->White Wine->Merlot->Cabernet->Pinot Noir.
