Douglas Hofstadter's book Gödel, Escher, Bach mentions aspects of self-reference and logical consistency in Escher's works.

I've spent a while making a Bach playlist, so yes, I do have these things basically bookmarked by now.

The guy who learned about Bach probably considers both to be very complex.

But we cannot write something vastly better to Homer or Plato, or compose something vastly better to Bach (or even merely better).

It's not a Bach fugue, but I wouldn't really call it uninteresting.

So, I disagree with you: one can have an opinion on whether a composer in 2015 is greater than Bach or Mozart, which depends on one's values.

The last time I read something that so awesomely bridged high level abstractions and low-level implementations with a human touch was Godel, Escher, Bach (albeit with a very different feel).

I'm currently using an ugly, manually-updated Google Spreadsheet as a backup for my largest playlist project, Bachify [1] -- it's got 1075 tracks, one for each Bach BWV number with an available recording.

I have 10 or so bass patterns and know how to come up with inversions of all the chords without thinking, so it is easy to play some elton john tune but very difficult to read beginner bach.

And it makes no sense to say that 2015 music is necesarrily better than 18th century music or 1960 music, or 1970 music, or that a composer, just because of being born later, is better than Bach or Mozart.

I don't 'stomach' higher math (experimentalist), but thought Hofstadter did a good job in "Godel, Escher, Bach".

He does mention a "golden braid forever weaving", which is reminiscent of: "Gödel, Escher, Bach.

Kevin Bowyer will probably play an organ piece with much more skill and subtlety than "Mutant Orchestra" on "Classical Halloween Bach from the Dead", but guess which one ranks higher.

Try setting something simple like Bach's Prelude No 1 from the WTC and you'll see how inefficient it is.

Bach's Well Tempered Clavier is even named after a recent technological improvement.
