It would be cool if there was an ongoing version of Beethoven say cranking out new symphonies.

Like feeding it all of Beethoven and then getting it to generate similar compositions.

Thankfully Mozart, Beethoven and Mendelssohn helped to keep an appreciation of Bach's work alive.

Einstein, Gandhi, & Beethoven are just a few examples which spring to mind..

You sound like one of those annoying fellows who would dismiss the works of Dostoyevsky as pseudoscientific, or the music of Beethoven as hogwash.

That derivative work may be copyrighted, much like the performance of a Beethoven symphony (are the orchestra ripping off Beethoven?) or the performance of a Shakespeare play (again, are the actors, producers and directors ripping off Shakespeare?).

On the other hand, I 'get' the beauty of Beethoven and the Boards.

In fairness, while the 45 minute mark is rarely hit in a single movement, 15-20 minutes is the length of the opening movement of most symphonies from Beethoven and later.

In terms of pure sound quality recording techniques have largely ceased to improve - the fidelity modern recording gear far exceeds the resolving power of the human ear, so if you go out and buy a great surround recording of a Beethoven symphony, that's pretty much as good as it gets, technically.

That's like asking "Who will be the next Beethoven?" Beethoven's dead, and the symphony, while it lives on as a cultural phenomenon, is no longer the primary means of consuming music.

It is remarkable how a really high percentage of the biographies I've read (of famous/"great" people) mention walking as a critical routine - Jobs, Beethoven, Jefferson, Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt spring to mind.

So instead of messing with Spotify's "artist" search, you could just go to Amazon (or Google) and type in "Beethoven's Ninth Bernstein New York Philharmonic" and you'll almost certainly get back the items you want near the top of the list.

If you're a professional musician auditioning to play Mozart, you wouldn't complain that your audition piece is Beethoven.
