So you could actually extend sawfish quite easily, and then do what Boox is doing.

Gnome 1.4 with Sawfish it was, even more than KWM thanks to Lisp.

The (default) WM in gnome has been sawfish, metacity, and currently mutter.

Maybe I’m in the minority, but I tried a lot of Window Managers and desktop environments and usually ended up back on either K Desktop Environment or Sawfish.
