Rayovac has been owned by Energizer since 2018 and their batteries have become increasingly comparable over time, yet Rayovac batteries are much less expensive than comparable Energizer batteries.

Sunbeam and Rayovac barely worked for a little while but Duracells kept on trucking for a long time.

Note: All Rayovac batteries used were confirmed to be alkaline batteries and the Sunbeam batteries it appears are not alkaline.

Xbox 360 controller: I've used Sunbeam and Rayovac AA batteries from the dollar store and CVS, respectively.

At our high school we each had to buy a TI-83 calculator kit, and it came with one of those Rayovac alkaline chargers.

Were the old Rayovac batteries alkaline or zinc-carbon?

Shortly there after Energizer bought RayOVac.

I buy the 60 pack of Rayovac AAs at Home Depot and always have fresh batteries -- and I don't have to worry about a leaking issue.

This may have been the reason for the subpar results I experienced yet I question why the Rayovac alkalines I used produced very similar results to the allegedly non-alkaline Sunbeams.

They aren't available _anymore_ - they used to be more widespread, for instance the "Rayovac Renewal" line of rechargeable alkalines.

Rayovac spent a lot of money making alkaline that wouldn't leak (after several years of research one guy's wife asked "why don't you encase them in steel" - turns out that works, or at least that is how I heard the story).

Rayovac was bought out by Energizer not too long ago.

Rayovac uses one brand for both alkaline and heavy-duty batteries, which cheapens their brand when a consumer buys the wrong type and all the batteries die a quick death.
