He's making a bet that Duracell is going to do better than Energizer in the long term.

Remember those Energizer bunny commercials showing the other bunny running out of battery halfway through the race?

What other reason would Energizer have for making rechargeable batteries with significantly less capacity than the same size throwaway battery?

The crisis du jour will soon be gone, but I'll still be cranking along like the Energizer Bunny.

I'd be interested to read what Energizer and Procter & Gamble think about this kind of tech.
