ralt

RAlt+y = ü, RAlt+q = ä, RAlt+p = ö, RAlt+s = ß and more (using RAlt+vowel gives you the accented variant).

It would be nice to be able to assign ralt-<letter> to launch different apps -- e.g.

Windows doesn't have an easy way to map in the compose key (usually ralt)?

I ran jwno with example-config and pressed RAlt and RAlt+K a few times, each time trying one of the onscreen shortcut keys (b, c, d, etc).

I set the compose:ralt xkboption for the server and the clients don't even have to know about it.

For the past 3 years I’ve done the following remap Caps -> lctrl/esc, enter -> rctrl/enter, tab -> lalt/tab, backslash -> ralt/ backslash.

I have a Compose key (RAlt on my current laptop).

On my current laptop I map RAlt to Compose.

I typed them with my Compose key, which I bind to the key to the right of Space, typically RAlt: Compose ( 1 ) ⇒ ① (this is part of the default mappings in /usr/share/X11/locale/en_US.

That part is easy, and is basically the same in Sway: I have `input * xkb_options "caps:backspace,compose:ralt"`.

But writing prose, I genuinely will write ×, ÷ if it feels the right one in that place, −, ‘/’ and “/”.) On one previous laptop keyboard I mapped Menu, on my current one RAlt is more suitable.

Now if only that pesky popup would handle Shift+Space and Ctrl+Backspace itself rather than letting them fall through to the parent… In my ~/.config/sway/config: input * { xkb_options "caps:backspace,compose:ralt" } (caps:backspace isn’t entirely relevant here, but it’s on the same line and I choose to mention it.
