If you're on Android and use Google Pinyin you can swipe across letters just like you can in English.

There are basically two styles of Chinese input: easy and slow via pinyin, or hard but fast via radicals.

Fortunately, there is a Romanization/phonetic system called pinyin that makes it quite easy to get started with pronunciation and tones.

It's more troubling for older people who haven't studied or have forgotten about Pinyin and need to resort to shape-based methods.

Most of them use memory, but you study pinyin if you are educated.

For the trifecta of compose-key, pinyin, and one-off symbols I haven't found anything better than switching off.

Not a native speaker either, but I hate typing in Pinyin on a touchscreen device (iPhone in my case).

I agree that Pinyin feels pretty much as fast as typing English on a real computer, though.

Unless I'm missing something I don't see the pinyin in wikipedia's table so it still doesn't fit the author's requirements.

Baidu is and ordinary PinYin word which is easy to remember.

Also since it's phonetic, I'd imagine it'd work great with Chinese in Pinyin mode.

"Input methods" here refers to high-level ways of interpreting various devices' events to produce text input for programs that accept text: on-screen keyboards, predictive input, pinyin, and so on.

When Chinese linguists came up with hanyu pinyin, they specifically wanted to pick up Latin characters (1) for Chinese phonetics, so that Chinese phonetic writing could use what we'd call "white men's writing system".

Are people now saying that hanyu pinyin should use a different coding to English, because it would be more "respectable" for non-English languages to have their own code points even if the character has same roots and appearance?

Hong Kongers obviously don't use Pinyin, and I think most are quite a bit slower than Mainlanders in typing characters.
