For a long time Word would screw up a ligature if it also included a color change.

Well, I would argue that using a ligature to establish the alpha gap around the lettering is a better use than hacking up a non-standard feature to the renderer.

Discussing font changes: kerning, hinting, ligature adjustments and the like aren't imperceptible.

The only possible problem I see is the == ligature; I think it only invites more mistakes of missing assignment vs comparison.

You're right that Lato has some peculiar glyphs, but there have definitely been specific comments in my office about the "fi" ligature.

The ligature used for the last letter of "haTaat" (suddenly) is not the same as the last ligature in "aditya" - the latter doesn't have the circle at the top.

Seems to be missing the "digital strategist" ligature:).

I smiled when I saw the Courier example with an "ff" ligature.
