Wouldn't it make sense for areas which were once geographically proximate to each other (Gondwana areas / Laurasia areas) to continue being geographically proximate to each other (continue being ≈ north of equator / south of equator)?

I thought it well grounded that mammals had evolved on Gondwana (the southern part of Pangea) during the process of it splitting away from Laurasia, and had settled Laurasia from Gondwana Gondwana was composed of now South America, Africa, India, and Australia.

For example, the oldest parts of the floor of the northern Atlantic ocean only started to form after Laurasia broke apart 50 million years ago, and the floor of the Pacific ocean is regularly recycled in the subduction zones of the pacific ring of fire.

What's mildly interesting is that this division mirrors, in a surprising way, the ancient separation of Gondwana and Laurasia.

Historically they were also practically neighbors (Laurasia, around 200 Mya).

Nuna, Rodinia, Proto-Laurasia, Proto-Gondwana.

The countries of the Global North largely reside in regions that were once part of Laurasia, while much of the Global South [including India] resides in areas that were part of Gondwana.
