Spin-off: The Merry Wiwes of Windsor was written because of the popularity of the Falstaff character from Henry IV.

Then Falstaff was killed off-stage in Henry V, presumably because Shakespeare got annoyed by the actor.

Londo Mollari, the alien with the upward-pointing hair, goes from Falstaff to Macbeth to redemption, and that's far from the main story.

So they wrote a pair of programs: Falstaff and Othello, if I remember correctly...
