If the Chicago Symphony directed by George Solti plays Wagner, with Thomas Hampson as a soloist, who do you list in the artist field?

For example, if you take a commonly performed piece like the Overture to Le Nozze Di Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro), you can get everything from Teodor Currentzis to Georg Solti to Karl Bohm.

I'd also add Bruckner to the list (my favorites are 4 and 8, and since I like big brass section then the Chicago Symphony Orchestra recordings with Solti fit me well, although I realize many classical music purists will probably disagree with me there).

Do you think, say, Georg Solti or Daniel Barenboim were happy with "just pretty good" musicians?

It's why it's worth the 5 year waiting list to see Wagner in Bayreuth, when arguably the greatest rendition of The Ring in 100 years (Solti, Chicago, fight me) is available relatively cheaply everywhere.

Although Leinsdorf’s performance of the “Valkyries” was rhythmically in synch with Solti’s, at this moment Leinsdorf had emphasized the strings in his orchestral balance, whereas at that same point Solti had chosen to emphasize the brasses, which—I realized now only in retrospect—were responsible for synergizing that wonderful acid blue of the ocean.

Not only do I want more, that works terribly for classical music where the artist could be the composer Wagner, the Chicago Symphony, conductor Solti, various soloists, etc.
