If you want reference, look up global dimming, and look up the problems global dimming is causing.

When the orientation is just right, the planet’s orbit places it between its star and Earth, dimming the detectable light of its star.

Like an anti-barking collar Dimming the glasses doesn't seem very punishing, in fact it might help you sleep.

There are energy-saving fluorescent bulbs emitting warm light, but none of them allows dimming the lights.

Anything in sunlight or incandescent illumination would have much more continuous dimming and brightening.

Add that to the automatic dimming, the Paperwhite isn't going to keep you awake.

My guess, some people are either color blind, dimming their screens trying to see it, or they are seeing a different image...

Total luminescence isn't a factor in suppressing melanin production either, as someone else has posted in this thread, so automatic dimming doesn't help either.

I also have the auto dimming head lights, although they too are a little dumb.

The not-fully-dimming windows were a little annoying, but also really neat.

The screen dimming might be a concern for me as well.

The automatic dimming, if it worked well (it didn't in my case) would help reduce eye strain by matching the Kindle screen brightness with the ambient light level.

I agree - all this automatic light dimming for movies and "scenes" seems like a gimmick.

My new home came with "smart features", like heaters controlled by a smart central hub with remote sensors, remote light dimming etc.

Dimming the glasses while in danger doesn't seem like a sensible thing to do.

Dimming the page, or some other visual transition, would be a good start.

Dimming a bright monitor is much easier than brightening a dim one.
