I tell you, the shave is closer than anything Gilette or Aldi or DSC or Harry's can do.

People who care about price and quality go to Lidl and Aldi anyway (if available in the vicinity).

The Aldi in Englewood isn't really a supermarket - it's more like a dollar-store version of Trader Joe's.

I assumed they would be cheap (per their name), but quickly realised that my local Aldi is cheaper.

And Aldi has a reputation for treating its employees well, bargaining hard but fair with its suppliers and delivering great value to customers.

I don't think it has very much to do with Lidl and Aldi at all.

I only do my shopping at aldi, so I save a good amount of money.

My corner shops and my local Aldi must be unusual.

Apparently not in Germany, where you can buy a small selection of Trader Joe's products at Aldi (they are owned by the same parent company / foundation).

While most see Trader Joe's an upstart grocery chain, it is important to note they are owned by the founder[s] of Aldi a huge grocery store chain.

It's hard to imagine there's so much competition for jobs at McDs or Chick Filet or Aldi (reputedly $12/hour+benefits), that smart-looking, communicative people would rather go door to door selling magazine subscriptions.

Calling an area that has an Aldi a "food desert" doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

The neighborhood was targeted by the city as a "food desert," although corner stores are common and discount-grocer Aldi's is just down the street.

You can get usually get one of the "no-frills" prepaid providers at any supermarket register (Medion Mobile at Aldi, Lidl Mobile at Lidl, jamobil at Rewe,...).

We test a 10$ Aldi no-name product, a 20$ product from another discounter, a 80$ brand product, and a 180$ product from a brand associatiated with quality" And then, after the practical and scientific testing: "We were surprised, the discounter product ended doing better than the brand product.

This by the way is what Aldi's are like in their home country, Germany.

So DSCs ad got me thinking, and all I ended up doing was swapping from Gilette to Aldi.

However, I doubt Whole Foods will draw too many neighborhood customers away from the Food-4-Less or Aldi.
