Arguably, roadway accidents far, far outnumber the number per-capita of space accidents.

Accidents are terrible things, but I'm not exactly sure why to blame those traffic accidents on the lights instead of the drivers.

The idea was that it was nimbler, and better able to avoid accidents to make up for that.

There are lots of trucks, resulting in many accidents nationwide, but they are far safer than the average driver.

And since these injuries are embarrassing to state-owned companies, government censorship exists to cover-up these sorts of accidents a lot.

Sure, but cars don't fall out of the sky when they get into accidents, spraying metal and death to people below.

How often does alcohol result in damage to a third party beyond the culprit's ability to pay, outside of alcohol-related car accidents?

Notice that because of car accidents there is a lot of focus on car safety, stopping drunk drivers, texting while driving, etc?

With the thousands of flights going on every day, accidents are pretty minimal.

In the US, we are required by law to report injuries and accidents on the job.

And notably, lane-splitting is not "safer" in the sense of preventing accidents.

My main point is that there are likely multiple factors and a headline titled “Can the ‘Right Stuff’ Become the Wrong Stuff?” with speculation and hand picked comments doesn’t help the investigation or preventing accidents in the future.

Although it's not surprising that military pilots would not be sharp on FAA regs, it does raise the question, "so how does civil and military aviation share the same airspace?" From accidents seen around the world, you can't safely mix them.

Accidents happen, the world changes and people will move forward.

Accidents caused by human error in cars are very prevalent, and self-driving cars at a macro-level would eliminate big risk factors for death and severe injury for a great number of people.
