That's why the most successful Kickstarter projects in this area have been tied to existing franchises, eg the Veronica Mars film.

You can kickstart a product like the Veronica Mars movie or Bee and Puppycat show.

Of course, the upside is that Kickstarter backers wanted a Veronica Mars movie more than they wanted financial profit, so Warner Brothers hasn't actually lost any money, but that's beside the point here.

So Veronica Mars is not relevant to the subject at hand.

I would figure that by 1997 most people stopped using gopher/archive/veronica.

In particular I missed the gopher / archie / veronica days.

The closest thing I can think of is Veronica Mars which was Kickstarted many years later and raised ~5 million dollars from 91,000 backers to make a single movie.

I predict the resulting balkanization of the namespace is going to lead to a collapse of the web within a decade, in the same way that Archie and Veronica eventually fell victim to their own complexity and were replaced by something more accessible.

Game of Thrones, if only for the shock value;-) And at last, the Tv series I've probably enjoyed most in the last few years: the first two seasons of Veronica Mars.

The "famous" people in my neighborhood are internet micro-celebrities like Veronica Belmont and porn stars like Madison Young.

I note also the declaration of interests section, where we learn that "Richard Feinman writes reviews for Fleishman-Hillard, whose client is the Corn Refiners Association and he has received grant support from the Veronica and Robert C.

But "do not use Kickstarter as a shop or as a pre order platform" was reasonably common before the veronica mars kickstarter; the changes to tier rewards was before the VM kickstarter (and perhaps Kickstarter needs to implement another change to prevent people offering things they cannot provide).

(The "Veronica Mars" movie comes to mind.) Also, I find it deeply upsetting that I am be allowed to give my life savings to a startup founded by a friend or family member, but I can't do this with a stranger...because the government wants to protect me or something.
