Mozilla Socorro is ugly and tied to their infrastructure in many ways.

Actually the test was closer Socorro and the small town of San Antonio, NM (birthplace of the Hilton dynasty.) It was on what is now White Sands Missile Range which is very close to Alamogordo, but there is a mountain range between the test site and Alamogordo.

The actual test location was at Trinity Site, which is closer to present day Socorro and Carrizozo[1] than to Alamogordo and detonated on the north end of what was then called the "Alamogordo Bombing Range." This location is now a part of the broader White Sands Missile Range.

I did not expect to be standing only 35 miles from Trinity, but from Socorro to the "back door" to the White Sands test range, there's the Rio Grande and the dusty crossroads village of San Antonio NM, a wonderful family farm, and the Owl Bar.

Socorro is the nearest proper town to the VLA, with about 9000 residents.
