If I send a smiley face with a skin tone attached I'm suddenly making a political statement with a smiley face.

I'm not sure if the smiley is an indicator of sarcasm or not 2.

I, for one, find a slider with the smiley face much better to use than 1-5 point bulleted scales.

I think it's the general texture of the "LOL", smiley emoticon, and exclamation more than the gratitude.
