pink-slipped

How many development teams got pink-slipped and how many got airlifted out with their families?

My employer several years ago pink-slipped their entire AS400 work force.

However, based on Google's bitchy blog post, were they to treat all such projects and departments equally like Google News, thousands of people would be pink-slipped tomorrow.

I'm sure at least a few companies have gone bankrupt or people have gotten pink-slipped for using AWS and not paying attention to auto-scaling settings...

Maybe after everyone is pink-slipped for an LLM or AI chatbot tool the total cost to the employer is reduced enough that they are willing to spend part of the money they saved eliminating warm bodies on AI tools and willing to pay a higher per employee price.

When I was in high school, pretty much all of my teachers under 40 were constantly on the verge of not having a job (due to constant budgetary inadequacies); they'd be repeatedly pink-slipped only to barely manage to keep their jobs another year.

Most of the teachers I had were relatively young, and hadn't been teaching for a very long time; my conversations with them - especially in high school - frequently included mentions of how often they'd be pink-slipped because the teachers' union - dominated by veteran, tenured teachers - would elect for pay raises instead of hiring more teachers.

Relinquish the opportunity to learn and research for 3-4 years and instead "hustle" with the risk of being pink-slipped every Monday morning?

And the fear of being pink-slipped because I'm not a "young rock star ninja." I just happen to know software and GIS, etc rather than widgets.
