Most scholars believe that if Aesop actually existed he was born in Anatolia (Thrace or Phrygia perhaps), entering the Greek world as a slave.

I’d never heard of Phrygia before a friend mentioned the Midas Monument to me.

He was born into slavery at Hierapolis, Phrygia (present-day Pamukkale, in western Turkey) and lived in Rome until his banishment, when he went to Nicopolis in northwestern Greece, where he spent the rest of his life.

Chapter 2 of the Acts of the Apostles tells how the Apostles speak in tongues and Acts 2,9-10 lists the nations that were in Jerusalem for Shavuot: Parthians and Medes and Elamites and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome.

In Ancient Greece, Phrygia, and Rome, there were galli priests that some scholars believe to have been trans women.

Pliny the Elder (one of the article's sources lol) even talks about mead (Hydromeli/Hidromel), and observes "it is nowhere more highly esteemed than in Phrygia (Turkey)".
