In the past, copying masters was a valuable part of architectural design—Andrea Palladio copied Bramante, Inigo Jones copied Palladio, Christopher Wren copied Jones.

Very close, the font is TeX Gyre Pagella which was based on URW Palladio L, which was itself designed as a Palatino replacement.

Palatino (Stempel/Linotype) = Book Antiqua (Monotype) = Palladio (URW) = Zapf Calligraphic (Bitstream) = TeX Gyre Pagella.

Some of them even got open-sourced, which is why there's a free version of Palatino in the Ghostscript fonts (URW Palladio L).

For long-form text, my eyes are now persuaded that only TeX Gyre Pagella and very close relatives -- Palatino, Palladio -- will do.

Fortunately, URW Palladio L (URW's freely-licensed version of Palatino) has fine Unicode coverage, so I used that and Palatino as fallbacks.

Unfortunately ET Book's metrics are not very comparable to URW Palladio L's, leading to letter size mismatches when letters mix; its x-height is especially different.

And I found that URW Palladio L is a quite pleasant font.

Villa Rotunda was centuries old when the National Museum used its domestic idiom for public purpose and Palladio had already looked back a millennium for the Villa Rotunda’s kitsch back then.
