Everything about the industry is based around croneyism, various inside deals made between established independent contractors on short term contracts with all sorts of padding.

The contrast is horrible, the padding is making 3/4 of the screen useless, it takes forever to load, when you click on something it's lagging again...

Also, listing a project that you have not completed isn't that useful - it also feels like padding.

If this means reducing padding a bit, so be it.

It reminds me of zero-padding FFT inputs to get a result with higher frequency resolution which of course is not real.

It looks very "Linux" from however long ago - that is, poor and inconsistent spacing, hodge-podge of icons (especially overcomplicated ones), frugal padding, etc.

Padding and border are added around the content.
