The latter is an interesting case I ran into in my prior life as a C++ programmer, and in OCaml.

Such things might make me use this instead of Ocaml if SML's libraries improved to a similar level.

OCaml and Haskell are two examples of languages with non-JIT AOT compilers (ocamlopt and ghc, respectively) that do precise GC.

That project combines a number of lessons learned from robust systems in the past while adding Ocaml to the mix.

OCaml and Haskell are great languages, but they require a lot of new learning at once.

If it's vital, you may want to consider another language such as Haskell or OCaml.

Add OCaml Labs (at Cambridge) to that list; their work is helping to remove some of the big gripes with OCaml whilst Mirage is genuinely interesting new (I think) work.

Since OCaml does support subtyping, you can use polymorphic variants[1] for this purpose.

There is also a compiler for OCaml bytecode to JavaScript, called js_of_ocaml[0].

There's just so much work going on in Ocaml community.

In what situation might you use this instead of ocaml?

Has the power of the Ocaml community going for it.

If you think OCaml's "easy genericness" is "more flexible than C++ templates" then provide an example of the exercise of such flexibility.

Then in my late 30s I picked up Python, then R, and now know both really well (plus C and a bit of JS, Ocaml).
