The title seems to imply that this is made by Nintendo but that's not the case.

Actually Nintendo consoles were manufactured in Brazil by Gradiente, through a company called Playtronic.

So, the same problem as Nintendo has in bringing Mother 3 to the US.

Nintendo didn't just approve cartridges by attaching a sticker to them, there was a protection chip inside (sold to the manufacturer by Nintendo) that allowed access to the NES.

Edit: just learned that Gradiente's Phantom System was a clone of NES, not a Nintendo's local partner.

This plant was said to be Nintendo's only plant outside Japan, though I never saw a reliable source confirming this.
