For a fun exercise on how elegant Hangul is, try writing english words with syllables grouped like Hangul.

It takes up so much room because it's a block script like Korean Hangul and is encoded by formula just like Hangul.

If they don't simplify it people just won't use it, when they can use Hangul or kana.

Yes, one could for example start by forking the ibus-hangul engine and adapt it for english.

It would be more difficult than the Hangul scheme because CJK characters are built recursively.

But i just wish the writing system for chinese would adapt something like hangul.

Too bad Korean is not written in mixed script (hanja + hangul) anymore.

It's really easy to pick up hangul basics so spending $20 on a book that's superficially just about the alphabet might seem silly.

Once you know enough hangul and grammar and vocab to have a hope of keeping up with spoken Korean, bulk up on audio.

It also isolates the written word from shifts in pronunciation over time a little more, something that hangul otherwise runs into problems with anyway.

It doesn't do hangul or vocab, instead focussing on numerous grammar forms.

I type Korean on a 2-Set Hangul layout, but have never used a keyboard that was labelled with that layout.

Neat:) I remember there was a "Linear Hangul" movement around the middle of the 20th century or so to do away with the blocks entirely, but it didn't catch on.

Hangul (Korean Language) users even stick with XP os and older versions of IE to avoid the hassle of upgrading.

Korean (Hangul) has its own, massive block of over 11K code points.

There's only room left for a few dozen more Hangul-style syllabaries!
