I think the hassle is having to start up gollum to use the wiki and having it run.

Maybe it would spare some energy to fork gollum and add extension to it to make it more Evernote-like?

And I keep different subjects in different repos so switching between each repo and relaunching gollum is a hassle.

I don't have to create notebooks and can use GitHub-flavored markdown (or other any syntax gollum supports).

I'd add the vivid and memorable CGI characters of Gollum and the T-1000.

Whenever I read anything about ZFS, some gollum first has to scream at me how superimportant a ridiculous amount of ram (especially ecc-ram) is.

Thanks - great input (and the Gollum suggestion is a good starting point!) On multiple VCS: On the one hand, git is so dominant (for better or worse) that I don't know if the complexity is worth it.

The nazgul are called "ringwraiths" but they don't seem to be any more undead than gollum or bilbo.

Some times it is easy, as “gem install gollum” and some times it is difficult, as trying to install gitlab.

I sometimes think in terms of "we", but then I start feeling like Gollum and snap myself out of it once the phrase "my precious" appears in my head.

As for "dark and ugly", there are plenty of evils throughout Tolkein that contradict one or both of those: Saruman, Denethor, Grima, Lotho, Smaug, Gollum, the Balrog, to some extent the Wood Elves, the Nazgul.

Also look at Gollum's backstory, and look at the rather gray morality of various self-serving folks towards the end of The Hobbit.

Tolkien is where their real allegiance lies, with references to Gollum, Mordor, the Misty Mountains, and Ringwraiths.
