I did join Ello during the genderqueer rush, though that's not a community I identify with.

Does 'genderqueer' and 'genderfluid' count as the same category, or different ones?

The rights of trans, intersexed, and genderqueer people are extremely important as we move forward.

There are people who identify as genderqueer, who don't fit into any gender identity, and people who identify as a gender, who don't have a gender identity.

This does have the, ah, interesting consequence that essentially any policy you could have about when you use gender-neutral pronouns will either offend or involuntarily out at least some trans or genderqueer people.

As far as your last comment is concerned; my support for women's rights comes out of having been gay and now being somewhere on the bi/genderqueer continuum so I can definitely relate to that.

Someone's gender identity as woman, man, genderqueer, etc is, of course, not completely reducible to neurology or biology and has very significant social, historical, and subjective aspects.

I'd suggest, "Do you self-identify as female?" There are slightly more women than men, so your bifercation is "female" and male/intersex/genderqueer.

I really don't understand this obsession with diversity in tech, particularly the oft-repeated mantra of "the team as a whole improves when there's more ethnic/gender diversity", as if being black or genderqueer gives you special insight into distributed computing algorithms.

Genderqueer and other folks who identify outside the binary often prefer an other option.
