By which you mean that if you have a fusee-glecee (sic) compatible switch, no hardware mods are necessary beyond turning it on holding a usually inaccessible button combination, right?

For the Nintendo Switch, it was used to dump some firmware which was then analysed and found to have a buffer exploit (can't remember what sort), which let to the famous Fusee Gelee exploit on early switches.

Similarly to the reasons behind the Geneva cross (loss of power as a spring unwinds), we developed the Fusee chain to compensate for the loss of power by acting like a transmission in a car.

Especially since newer hardware revision exist which fixed Fusee-Gelee, the BootROM bug you talked about.

There were warmboot attacks (see Fusee-Gelee) that involved code injection, but even then the machine would still recognize it was running in debug mode, and block the user from access to certain functions.

[3] Interestingly, the Spanish, French and German on the motors still use motor, as Motor, Moteur-Fusee and Raketenmotor, respectively.

[0]: An interesting counterpoint would the Nintendo Switch running on an Nvidia Tegra hardware, but all the evidence points to that this chip is a 100% vanilla Nvidia Tegra X1 that Nvidia was already selling themselves (to the point its bootloader could be unlocked like a standard Tegra, leading to the Switch Fusee-Gelee exploit).
