Calling an RBM an encoder is somehow not far fetched, but there are many differences between auto encoders and RBMs.

Who has multiple implementations of the same codecs (2 prores decoders, at least 2 prores encoders) or libraries (2 resampling libraries)?

It seems conceivable that a old encoders might have produced 320 kbit mp3s that were distinguishable from CDs in blind tests.

Not to mention the fact that better quality encoders tend to come along over time.
