I still wish there was a native solution with a RAD environment like that, Delphi is nice but the syntax is quite friction filled for a beginner.

The funny thing was Delphi was also a customer (the electronics subsidiary of General Motors).

Webapps still haven't catched up with the 90's Delphi experience of doing desktop apps.

And most importantly, the final binaries you get with Delphi are indistinguishable (size, speed) from those produced by C/C++ compilers, if not better sometimes.

Surprisingly the apps worked even on much later versions of Windows than were current when Delphi 1 was released, though of course the widgets looked old-style.

To Delphi it was cheaper to run the production line flat-out and deal with the failures, rather than find problems earlier by inspection of received parts.
