The dominance of Cubans as part of the demographic is quickly slipping.

Besides, the notion that Cubans hate the US is just wrong.

The regime is already on thin ice, as over 2 million Cubans have access to the state-controlled internet (like clubs or through cafes) or a cell phone.

Does it mean Cubans can now install the Oracle Java runtime?

San Francisco is made up of about 15% Mexicans, where Miami has a majority of Cubans along with other Central Americans, and about half of the population is Hispanic.

I wonder how many cubans have devices that could connect to the internet if it were available.

Seeing English spellings in Spanish writing attributed to Cubans is quite painful.

I know lots of older cubans who've been here 30 years+ and barely speak english.

Although Cubans do not enjoy complete political freedom, most people there have a higher standard of living than before the revolution, almost everyone knows how to read and write and most social services are free (Cubans have better healthcare than US citizens).

I'm still cautious about how this will actually turn out for the cubans or if we'll get a rosy view of what it's actually like over there.

[1] And of course Little Havana is still Cuban, it's well maintained generally safe and all that the Cubans who had to leave their country have left (Besides Hialeah).

This is not the first time enemies of the US try to smuggle people in illegally - the Soviets and the Cubans especially sent many agents that way, as well as infiltrating US criminal organisations (see for example Oleg Kalugin's biography [1] which explores the links between the Soviets and the Italian mafia).

I don't mean this from a sense of "who cares?" but more from a sense of "let Cubans figure out what works for them".

I hope the Cubans realize those old cars might be their only retirement, and don't sell to, "It's only worth this much to me?" Guys?

Miami has strong opposition inside the town's political factions (new Cubans, old Cubans, retirees, etc).

Cubans in Cuba are very conscientious spellers and have excellent education in Spanish (education in Cuba has its perks).

There are 10 times more people without access to the Internet in my country (Brazil) than there are Cubans.
