While the valley is a great networking hub, you can probably get a similar but more limited experience from some of the smaller startup hubs like Denver, Houston, Chattanooga (my own home).

I assume the Chattanooga 1Gb is the municipal network that runs ~ $70/mo.

I've been researching how to start any sort of movement for reasonable service in town but it seems the town council is pretty alright with comcast, even though some tech business have actually moved from knoxville to Chattanooga for the internet.

But it doesn't get too much or too often in the way of everyone at the company trying to constantly find any and every feasible way to make their services better than the big ISPs, take care of their customers better because they are family and friends, and take pride in finding more ways to play a part in making Chattanooga a better place[2].

Of course, I say that tongue in cheek, because there was no real competition in the area; all the big ISP players were indicating they had no plans to fully cover Chattanooga any time soon (they did, of course, immediately start lobbying against EPB).

In the case of Chattanooga, one of the cities that petitioned for this, there was little or no business to compete with.

Do these state bodies (Chattanooga power utility) have a state mandated monopoly or protection?

Or option three: Given the choice between open plan in San Francisco and open plan in Chattanooga, Tennessee, they choose the job in SF.
