Regardless of whether the article's editorial stance is a bit kind to Pao, I think the fact that numerous racist comments were directed towards her is a lot more pertinent to the story than the number of Asians working in SV...

Them not having that right has a lot to do with racist legislators in a previous era feeling like votes by "alien races" (e.g., Asians) would be detrimental.

While East Asians are not "white" in the "racial" sense (ew), their skin is light much like Europeans', and thus when the Japanese created the emoji, they made them have light skin.

So, the stereotype of "blacks are loud" or "asians show no emotions" or "Jews only care about money" or whatever are simple-minded ways for people to classify others.

This ignores the history of various oppressed groups who unbent themselves (east Asians, south Asians, Jews, Irish).

Within liberal culture, it's typical to allow offensive stereotypes against Asians, on the basis that it is actually mocking the stereotype, not Asians.
