I guessed the correct Acapulco then hypothesized that Otis was something being transported by truck to there.

I assumed Otis was a indy dev library project and Acapulco to be a code name for a upcoming release.

I'm thinking something like Acapulco where Hurricane Otis rapidly progressed from a mild storm to a Cat 5 hurricane due to warm waters.

If I were going to come up with a hypothetical explanation for the maps beyond 20th century forgery, I'd say that it's more likely that some 16th century Manila galleon strayed a bit north on the return trip to Acapulco and did some secret mapping.

Hardly anyone in the US has heard about Acapulco after Otis, or the recent rain bomb storms in France, Spain, and Italy, or the flooding in Iran, or the fact that large areas of arable land in the UK are waterlogged and farmers are promising significantly smaller crop yields.

I know what Acapulco is, but when reading "Otis" I first think of elevators, which very rarely explode...
