Both my eyes had a vitrectomy during retinal surgery and it is really great to live without floaters.

Thousands of laser zaps later and a vitrectomy, my left eye is stable; but, the vision loss is permanent.

I had a vitrectomy where they take out the middle bit of your eye and put in a gas bubble instead which gradually dissolves and is replaced by liquid.

Before a needle is able to reach that retinal area, the surgeon must perform what is known as a Vitrectomy which is basically a chop and suction of that gelatine in order to have a good visual and be able to accurately manipulate surgical instruments.

Unfortunately the only real option to cure them is getting a vitrectomy in which the vitreous jelly is sucked out of your eye with a 3-port vitrector (which consists of one cutter/sucker, one saline injector, and a light for the surgeon) and having the eye replace it naturally by secreting fluid in its place.

I note they removed the vitreous humor to place the modified-virus under the retina (termed a vitrectomy), recording that "It is not yet clear if subretinal injection can be done safely without vitrectomy".

I got lucky and had my lenses replaced and the eye fluid completely removed (Vitrectomy).
