What counts as a native Ulster Scots speaker is someone who speaks English with an NI accent with some localisms thrown in.

Some still call themselves (or their subdialect of English) Ulster (Norther Ireleand) Scots.

There are more Irish classes running in East Belfast than for Ulster Scots.

The Ulster Institute has ties with "racialist" fringe scientists promoting what is essentially a 21st century take on eugenics.

As Sir Ronald Storrs, the British Military Governor of Jerusalem stated in the early 1920's; "It will form for England a little loyal Jewish Ulster in a sea of potentially hostile Arabism." I guess he was right about some of the similarity with Ulster, though perhaps not in the way he intended.

Growing up, people knew I lived in a trailer, and was therefore "white trash." The fact that I spoke in the dialect of my family (a thick, Appalachian accent which is itself a relic of heavy Ulster Scots settlement of the region) marked me as an outsider when I arrived at college courtesy of a wealth coal-man's scholarship and heapings of Pell Grants.

Ulster Scots is a different thing than was they're referring to.

Adherents to the Anglican communion wouldn't necessarily consider themselves 'Ulster Scots'.
