touchscreens

The trend that annoys me the most is touchscreens in cars.

On top of that, if the touchscreen is reprogrammable, then it can be attacked directly and touchscreens are commodity devices not normally considered part of the security infrastructure.

When the rest of the world moved on to touchscreens, Blackberry would have been left behind anyway.

Nokia, Moto, HTC, etc, appear to only have capacitive touchscreens on the roadmap - for good reason.

I've seen touchscreens at restaurants/bars, would a soft less delicate one work well?

They have basic design flaws like using naff graphics, which neither look good nor supply information more effectively than simpler alternatives, and using non-tactile controls like touchscreens or fully circular rotating dials.

It used to be IE6 because it was antiquated but now it's anything with a touch screen - mainly thinking how hover has been relegated to visual effects even though it's fine on non-touchscreens.

Thanks for mentioning the haptic buttons on the Voyage - my wife hates touchscreens, so she alternates between the last generation of e-ink Kindle with page turn buttons and the last generation with a keyboard.

I didn't really start using Windows 8 until 8.1, I touched a few machines (that didn't have touchscreens) with windows 8 early on and it sucked, server 2008 over RDP was worse...

Touchscreens are much more widespread and 8 handles touch well.
