Supposedly the DOS version of SimCity had a bug/oversight where it accessed a ram segments after freeing it.

Where you got to drive/fly around, respectively in your actual SimCity loaded in from a save file.

My first thought went to back in the day there were all those addons for SimCity like SimCar or SimHelicopter.

But SimCity has always been a game first and foremost to me with a quasi-interesting simulation.

If I recall correctly, latest SimCity also was focused on agents, but it seems Skylines devs are better;).

One thing I learned, whether accurate or not, from the original SimCity is road maintenance is expensive.

I would bet the hardest-to-fit game would be something like SimCity or SimAnt or Populous.

I downloaded all these games and what not, only to pay simcity for a few hour and my nostalgia quotient was filled.

Other successes included micropolisJS, my SimCity 89 in Javascript port.

SimCity used agents in places they're totally inappropriate though.

Strategy in SimCity & Cities: Skylines wouldn't survive politics.

But rather than let said game crash on newer versions, MS put in a conditional that disabled the enforcement if it was the SimCity binary that was running.

SimCity doesn't have any model of "low-income housing" "giving money to folks".

If high schools could jam in a segment on economic civics, perhaps using some version of "SimCity" to drive the situation home, then nicely informed voters wouldn't be so like to make overly broad statements.

Don't get me wrong, Skylines is basically a good game to me, but as someone that has been playing the "Sim" series of games since the original SimCity, I think they missed many of the lessons learned by those games and really could have released a much better game.

I generally agree with your conclusions about SimCity (2013) though; generally great UI, but tiny city sizes, online services dependency (which is greatly mitigated now as of the "final" patch), and some of the "streamlining" done to the game.
