To me, this is roughly equivalent to thinking that the greatest reporter in the world is Rupert Murdoch.

It's hard to believe Rupert Murdoch, for example, believes his companies bring nothing of value.

This is the WSJ we're talking about here: a Rupert Murdoch mouthpiece, not some bastion of balanced reporting.

Is this out of fear of or caving in to pressure from Rupert Murdoch?

This is simply about Rupert Murdoch wishing he could get money from news aggregators, and using all his influence and clout to try and make it so.

For example, people question the ethics of Rupert Murdoch's empire and those of the UK tabloid culture, yet that public questioning is not reminiscent at all of gamergate.

These misconceptions are great if you're Rupert Murdoch.

And beyond that I do think Uncle Rupert has created extra problems for content in Australia (it seems Australia is the worst Netflix catalogue based on what people say - I haven't actually examined it).
