It was a quarry used by natives for thousands of years to obtain Rhyolite for tools and weapons.

Egyptians used metals, quarz sand and granite but you can't always find rhyolite in a volcanic island.

The Rhyolite ghost town near Death Valley National Park has a house entirely made of glass bottles.

Apparently Rhyolite was a big deal everywhere.

A few geology papers were part of my engineering study way back when - we were taught 3 types: basalt, andesite, and rhyolite in order of explosiveness.

The entire area surrounding the hill consists of massive boulders and outcrops of blue hills rhyolite, each one slightly different, and each one a type of stone that I have found turned into tools that we excavate on archaeological sites throughout the area.

I recently learned about one of them in the Blue Hills just south of Boston; it was a quarry used by native people for thousands of years to make stone tools such as spears and axes: Wampatuk hill, one of the many that make up the ridges of the Blue Hills, is made entirely out of a material called rhyolite.

Most notable in that: "The rhyolite magma chamber beneath Yellowstone is only 5-15% molten (the rest is solidified but still hot), so it is unclear if there is even enough magma beneath the caldera to feed an eruption." So yes, it is waning.

It feels as if I'm missing out on some sort of universal human experience of making sharp stuff out of Rhyolite.
