Is this kind of patent really super unique in that the tether is retractable and the drone does not land?

There are already concepts for retractable steering wheels [1] that could be combined with retractable pedals to handle situations that require manual control.

Making them retractable with user knowledge also seems fair - although retracting LTS just before shutting down isn't really meaningful.
