There are a few platforms like PhoneGap that allow you to develop mobile apps on multiple devices using one codebase.

Unreal, Unity, Cocos, even phonegap or ionic packaging up a html5 game engine like phaser are all very good choices.

Additionally having a standard API gives projects like Phonegap an API to 'target' when exposing native device APIs to JavaScript.

It isn't just like a Phonegap application where it is run within a web container, so you get the native performance.

I do agree to the extent that things like PhoneGap do result in compromises.

) but I vaguely recall they did work when I tried them from Phonegap on the phone.

We handle all the swapping of CSS/JS, loading what you need only on demand, caching (even in the phonegap bundle!), retaining tools you still need while pages get replaced (instead of re-constructing them expensively from scratch every time).

In the past two years, I've worked with Python, Objective-C, Swift, Backbone.js + PhoneGap, Angular + CoffeeScript, Node.js, and Ruby/Rails.

It makes more sense to develop hybrid native apps which are mostly html5 using something like QtWebKit and add your own per-platform goop rather than try to use something like node-webkit, phonegap (cordova) or appcelerator, because, inevitably, system-specific code will be needed, and not having direct access to APIs because of limited proxy/thunk/trampoline code doesn't make for happy developers.

* Frameworks/Platforms: Android (4.3, to a lesser extent 5.0+), PhoneGap, Django, Flask, Zend Framework, Laravel, Symfony, CodeIgniter, Django, Wordpress, Slim (PHP).

Lastly if all you really care about is having an "app" for a SaaS or other webapp then PhoneGap or Ionic would be a valid choice.

Then it would be to react what Intel XDK is to Cordova/Phonegap.

I was considering trying to make my own app to do it with the idea of using Phonegap/Javascript to read the html for a site and then process it in a Clearly type manner.
