The work by Nielson and Nielson is fairly recent.

This is more a problem that Nielson or someone similar needs to correct but it is a problem.

Jacob Nielson discovered years ago that people are divided into major groups of searchers and browsers, for finding content.

Where to begin:) Last time I pointed out that Nielson was out of his comfort zone with security.

According to this article, Nielson has it at less than 15 hours per week.

) Other sites, like Comscore, use various methods like router-level analysis & client-side monitoring software (like Nielson w/ TVs).

According to Nielson the churn-rate at twitter is 60-70%.

I didn't know the Jacob Nielson point, but I'll side with that.

(c) The alternative suggested by Jakob Nielson is manifestly and categorically asinine.

The Nielson Norman Group says that in addition to this, you only have ten seconds to provide written-proof of that value: > the first 10 seconds of the page visit are critical for users' decision to stay or leave.

And Quinnec's book is not for the faint of heart; you will need to have been well versed in lisp, compiler/runtime implementation techniques and have brushed against denotational semantics (through the Nielson and Nielson book, perhaps.) [edit: denotational, not operational, semantics; OS can be learned in a fun-filled weekend.

If you wanna dip into semantics, there is no better text than Nielson and Nielson "Semantics with Applications", also online on the authors' website.

I also highly recommend "Semantics with Applications" by Nielson and Nielson.

Really really bad choice of terms: it took me until the middle of the article to realize Nielson is comparing these new "mega dropdowns" to navigation with the <select> element – not one dimensional dropdowns!

Nielson makes some good points, but I think at the same time, his point-of-view is overly academic.

But in the end, it comes down to trusting the pollster, be it Forrester or the New York Times/CBS or Harris or Nielson's overnights.
