Here's an example from a Google email engineer's recent post to the Mailop list, which is running Mailman software.

Google Groups makes it hard to use without a google id, and mailman is tricky to setup/maintain.

Would Debian maintain its own fork or would you contribute directly to the GNU mailman project?

I'm also on a bunch of email lists using mailman and run through the computing society of my alma mater (as well as some similar lists from other nearby schools.) Is there some feature set you want that you can't get by setting up a google group and then just using it as a discussion list in old-fashioned email?

Still waiting for somebody to create a good mailing-list service based on "subscribe with GitHub" (i.e., OAuth) to take this all away from Google and crappy self-hosted Mailman both.
