Written in the Old Testament book of Hosea 8:7 to describe Israel's foolish political alliances and idolatry.

God is said to be the husband of Israel; Hosea and others liken Israel to a prostitute or an unfaithful wife.

The verse was used twice, once in Hosea 6 and the other in Matthew 9.

To paraphrase Hosea 8:7 -- so the wind, reap the whirlwind.
